Buoyed by our success on Skafell Pike we decided to drive to Snowdon ready for an early start the next day. There was no 3 or 4G reception so we followed a crazy winding route out of the Lakes in glorious sunshine heading vaguely south. We arrived in the dark around midnight for our second car camp. The car park was busy with teams attempting the three peaks challenge. Early the next morning we packed our kit for the day and set off. It was cool in the morning shade but fairly early on the sun came out and we were bathed in sunshine.

The Pyg Track was a long but simple route, easy enough to navigate and filled with people making their way to the top. We chatted happily and pushed on without too much urgency. The final push to the top was a little more strenuous than the gently undulating route we had become accustomed to. It required a fair bit of effort in the heat of the late summer sun. The views from the top were amazing and in stark contrast to the previous day. We took our time at the top, sitting on some rocks and watching clouds struggling to pass over the mountain. Half the mountain was clouding over and the other half was perfectly clear. The experience was brilliant; in two days we had achieved so much. We had set a solid benchmark for future adventures.

We took the same route down to begin with but then opted to switch to the Miners Path. The path was interesting and in places really did require full attention. After a short while the route levelled out and we walked for what seemed like an eternity. At some point in the last mile we finished our water having underestimated how much we would be drinking but 30 minutes later we were back at the car – relaxing and eating.
All too quickly it was time to head home and there were still people who desperately wanted our parking space! We moved the remaining supplies into the front of the car for easy access. Arthur was fast asleep within minutes and stayed asleep for a good two or three hours. I was feeding off the adrenalin of the experience, it was a weekend we would never forget.
